Te Whakatipu Rangatira

Growing Leaders for Aotearoa

Ko au ko koe, ko koe, ko au, ko tāua.
You and me, me and you. Us.

Our Kaupapa

Manawa Rahi partners with remote and underserved communities across Aotearoa to grow young leaders, te whakatipu rangatira. We believe potential exists everywhere, but access to opportunity does not. Our role is to walk alongside whānau and communities so their rangatahi can access quality secondary education, strong pastoral care, and pathways into the wider world.

Why We Exist

Many isolated communities face limited access to secondary schooling and support services. Manawa Rahi responds to invitations from communities, working in partnership to remove barriers and create education pathways that are culturally grounded, relational, and sustainable.

What We Do

  • Enable access to secondary education through boarding and homestay pathways

  • Provide pastoral care and mentoring throughout a student’s journey

  • Support whānau and communities to make decisions that uphold mana motuhake and tino rangatiratanga

  • Prepare rangatahi for life beyond school into pathways including tertiary study, trades, and employment

How We Work

Our kaupapa is community-led. Whānau and local leaders help identify suitable rangatahi and guide decisions. The Trust coordinates enrolments, funding, and ongoing care. Our team ensure each young person is supported academically, socially, and culturally.

Looking Ahead

Over the next four years, we aim to double the number of rangatahi we support and strengthen our mentoring and pastoral care. Our long-term vision is simple: equitable opportunity for rangatahi from every corner of Aotearoa.
